SIX MONTHS TO THREE YEARS
to find the right person

SIX MONTHS TO THREE YEARS
to have a productive relationship

SIX MONTHS TO A YEAR
to plan a wedding

A YEAR OR TWO
of marriage to ensure a good fit and enjoy “newlywed” status

ONE TO THREE YEARS OR MORE
(if there are infertility or other medical issues) to start a family

That makes the minimum time from single status to motherhood approximately three and a half years!

The medium amount of time (a more realistic gauge) ranges from five to seven years. The process often takes over ten years. For a woman now thirty, that means waiting until her late thirties or early forties—a late age—to have a child. A second one may not be an option.
